I was just coming to post asking if Kate was fine too, although she is on the opposite end of the island so she probably is. They've had a bunch of small earthquakes on Vancouver Island this week, according to the news.

The second one is at or near by the farm 'Hraun' but the first one was with mountain road no 744 - I lived at Skagaströnd and my daughter and her family lives there

I hope Handball is covered here then. It's not a very big game here in Canada. The store I work at is supporting one of the top rowers in Canada as Victoria is home for Canada's Olympic Rowing team as they can train here year round!!!!!!!!!!!! No nasty ice and snow to freeze the lake they train at like other parts of Canada lol. Kate aka Canadaformagni

We hada mini quake here a few years ago and didn't feel it but only a few blocks away at our daughters school they felt it. I haven't felt anything since moving here and this is on a very major fault line. I used to feel them all the time in the 1970's and hear them coming first while in Vancouver. The whole West Coast shook bad back in 1964? during the big Alaska quake and I still remember our house shaking. So I think we our due for a major something some time soon as it has been much too quiet for a number of years. Im glad no one was killed in the Iceland quake. Kate aka Canadaformagni

I've seen all the Icelanders that I know from here online in the past two days, as far as I know Magni is the only one in the area that was hit.

Those are easy to miss...we've had a few in the low-mid 3's here over the years (thankfully that's all we get) and I haven't felt any of them, most were while I was sleeping but the last one was during the day and I still didn't feel it!

Thanks for checkilng in Magni. It's good to hear you are alright. And you have the right perspective on it, things can be replaced as long as everyone is ok.

All our friends in Iceland, stay safe! The picture of the bridge along shows the strengh of that quake!

There's been minor aftershocks all night long

and ofcourse people are in shock.

On this area are 5 small towns, Selfoss, Hveragerði, Eyrarbakki, Hvolsvöllur and Þorlákshöfn.

And it shows how well our houses are build that only 28 people were injured, and all minor.

There's not known, at this point, how many houses are ruined or major damaged but a few are, and most of them, if not all, were built early 1900.

Although we were pretty sure you were OK because there were no casualties, thanks for letting us know, Magni! Good that you were out of the way when it happened, stuff can be replaced...people can't! Stay safe, hopefully there won't be any major aftershocks.

I was in Akureyri when it hit - going home in the morningn to see the damages - my boys went to my house and it´s a bloody mess, glass everywhere.
But it´s only stuff - My guitars are ok so although my cd collection is partly toast and all my gold albums are broken on the floor - nobody got hurt.

Oh my! I'm just catching up to this now... That's a pretty sizeable quake! ...glad to hear there were no casualties! Reuters quoted some officials saying damage wasn't major around Selfoss but from those pics it looks like it may have done quite a bit. Hope that Magni and all the peeps around there didn't get hit too hard damage-wise.

Always wondered about the potential for some big ones there, seeing how seismically active it can potentially be.

Since the root of the quake was only 5 kilometers from Hveragerði I guess Magni did feel it:w00t:

They are removing everyone from the hospital in Selfossi due to some damage on the building.

People are asked not to be inside cuz they're kind of expecting another big one, and they who have friends or family in f.e. Reykjavík are asked to go and spend the night there.

Fortunatly the weather is great.

At Eyrarbakka and Stokkseyri also were some great damages, people lost everything.

We just had an earthquake at 6,7, beetween Hvergerði og Selfoss, almost in Magni's backyard :w00t::w00t:

No casualty but a lot of damage.

People feelt it in a big radius.

I was at work and was downstairs in the workshop having coffee and smoke and didn't feel a thing but when I came upstairs the guy's were talking about things were shaking but they thought that was because the guys at the workshop were moving a big bulldozer :D

I said to them, we wouldn't know if there'd be a big quake and then I heard it in the radio on my way home - it was actually a quake this time :P
